The 2026 EPBD Context
The revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive entered into force on 28 May 2024, and 29 May 2026 was the general deadline for EU Member States to transpose the revised directive into national law.
Buildings account for around 40% of EU energy consumption, while around 75% of EU buildings have poor energy performance. The EPBD does not require KNX, but the wider focus on efficient and maintainable buildings increases the importance of coordinated building-control systems.
KNX can integrate lighting, HVAC, shading, sensors, actuators and gateways, while ETS provides a structured environment for commissioning, modification and future maintenance.
